Mansion from Molehill #3

I finally got around to hanging Ken's Christmas present up. Can you imagine how excited he was that his gift was pictures...in frames? Anyway, they are custom silhouettes of the dogs that I had made from Etsy so the thought was there. They turned out really well!

So the molehill was a super blank wall space with cheap paint that shows every grimy run-in a person may have with it. It's difficult to find something to fill that area with a clean look that is still personal enough to be homey. I thought these would do the trick. Maybe I'll get some real photos take in daylight so you can actually see it? Don't be holding your breath though!

3-2-1....GO!!

And we're off to the races...my bets are on the lady in red. Wish I got a picture when they were both looking ahead and not talking. Priceless...

The First Wives Club

Oh, they don't make them like they used to...

I'm treating myself to some starburst candies and one of my favorite old movies. I know every line by heart. Just when I think the evening can't get any better, I turn the guide on and see that Pretty Woman is on next. Sigh...

1st Anniversary Re-Cap

Well, we made it through our first year of marriage! Yippee!!!

Anyone who tells you that marriage doesn't change things is wrong. Like, super wrong. Be sure not to listen to them. And when you secretly roll your eyes and scoff at the people that tell you it DOES change, don't. Because it will. Just my two cents...BUT - I do feel like it has changed me for the better. I have learned things about myself (things that I like, and things that I don't necessarily like, too) and feel a heck of a lot closer to Ken. For some reason, stupid little tiffs (like my pet peeve about Ken's Clothing Landfill on his side of the bed) become a little more serious once you tie the knot. Maybe because I am now legally committed to loving that little landfill that-I-can't-see-but-know-is-there-and-wind-up-picking-up-myself-because-I-HAVE-to-get-laundry-done for the rest of my days? I don't know. Maybe that's a bad example? Just sayin'....

I wouldn't trade being married for the world (I might trade Ken, but that's another blog post...I kid, I kid!). We had a really great day yesterday celebrating our first year of marriage on New Year's Eve. It snowed like crazy all day...yet we managed to take the dogs for a nice, long walk at the park...and I managed to wear this super short dress in blizzard-like conditions (I do believe that one lady said I must not have gotten the memo when I walked past her at the restaurant...but, tomato, tom-ah-to). Loved the dress, by the way. I rented it from Renttherunway.com, a place that rents designer dresses for a fraction of the price (they even send you a free back-up size) for your special occasion instead of you spending loads of money on a dress that you will only wear one time but will keep in your closet because surely you will wear it again. Right? Ladies, we've all been there.

We went and ate at a sushi restaurant and were reminded why we never go out and do anything...the service and food usually aren't that great...crowds are bothersome...ya-da, ya-da. But we both agreed that it was really nice to get dressed up for each other. A refreshing change from our usual uniform of sweats and comfort! We clean up pretty nice!

We got home and sliced into our mini-wedding cake that the baker made fresh for our anniversary (thanks, Mom and Dad!). It was good but the smaller size meant a lot more icing than cake (for whatever reason) compared to the larger cake from the wedding. Very rich...let's just say that this year I didn't wake up covered in cake, wondering what happened the night before. I didn't have quite as much champagne this year either. Might have had something to do with it.

Next up, it was time to put another knot in our "love knot." This is my favorite reminder of our wedding and I never tire of looking at it (thank you Kellee for helping us make it perfect!!). It's a sweet reminder of our vows and I had been looking forward to adding another knot, especially the few days before our anniversary. I almost made Ken listen to me read our vows while we did it, but I settled with reading the part about the knot to myself. A guy doesn't have to be forced to listen to the sappy part for it to be special and fun.

After we tied another knot, we got in bed and watched the movie "Lawless." Oh! And Ken made me a frozen banana with the consistency of ice cream from our new juicer (it really felt like I was eating ice cream but it was just a banana. Although we could probably stand to tweak the recipe a bit). So yeah, we got a juicer as our anniversary present to ourselves. We had one before but it was a pain to clean so we never used it. This one is super easy to clean and we have been juicing for days! And spending additional time getting used to the extra fiber...Anyway...

I wish you all a Happy New Year and may your 2013 be filled with lots of love, happiness, and success (whatever definition that may be for you)!
